A Local Fortin Operator for Low-order Taylor–Hood Elements

We construct local Fortin operators for low-order Taylor–Hood methods for incom- pressible fluid flow in both two and three dimensions. We apply the local Fortin oper- ators to define approximations that are local, optimal-order, and discretely divergence free. This includes optimal-order approximations simultaneously on the boundary and in the interior.
